Why divorce real estate became personal for me
Why Divorce Real Estate Became Personal for Me
I didn't get into Divorce Real Estate because I thought it would be a good niche.
I got into it because I've lived the experience of making major decisions about a home while going through a divorce — and I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed, rushed, and unsure of what the right decision actually is.
At the time, I didn't have the knowledge I have today. I felt pressure to make decisions quickly, and I didn't fully understand what I was giving up or what other options I may have had. In the process, I lost valuable time and money.
That experience stayed with me.
It was one of the reasons I ultimately went deeper into real estate. I wanted to understand the process for myself — the numbers, the negotiations, the decisions, and what actually goes into protecting the value of a home.
And then something happened that changed the way I looked at everything.
After getting into real estate, I was involved in the eventual sale of the home — and it sold for $80,000 more than the outcome I had originally experienced.
That was a huge lesson for me. Not just about the value of having the right real estate professional, but about not making a major decision simply because you feel like you have to make it right now.
Today, that's a huge part of how I approach divorce real estate. I'm not here to tell you that you need to sell your home. Sometimes selling is the right answer. Sometimes keeping it, buying out a spouse, refinancing, renting it, or taking a completely different approach may deserve a closer look.
My job is to help you understand the real estate side of those decisions so you can move forward with information instead of pressure.
I've also completed specialized training and earned the RCS-D™ (Real Estate Collaboration Specialist – Divorce™) designation through Professor Kelly Murray, J.D., focused specifically on the real estate complexities that arise during divorce.
Because I've been on the other side of that decision, I know how important it is to slow down, understand your options, and know what you're actually deciding before you make the move.
Why this matters to me
"I know what it feels like to sit across the table from professionals and try to make major decisions while you're already emotionally overwhelmed."
During my own divorce, I experienced firsthand how complicated the connection between a divorce and a home can become. I also learned how important it is to have someone who truly explains your options, protects your interests, and makes sure you understand what is happening before you make decisions that can have a lasting impact. That experience changed the way I approach this work — and it's why I pursued specialized training to serve clients going through exactly what I went through.
How I work with divorcing clients
A Process Built for This Situation
A Confidential Consultation
We start with a private conversation — no pressure, no judgment. I'll listen to your situation, explain your options, and help you understand what the process looks like from a real estate perspective.
Coordinating with Your Legal Team
I work alongside your attorney and financial advisor to make sure the real estate piece aligns with your legal agreements and timelines. I speak their language and know how to keep everyone on the same page.
Neutral, Professional Representation
Whether I'm working with one spouse or both, I maintain strict neutrality and professionalism. My job is to serve the transaction — and protect both parties' interests in the process.
Preparing and Pricing the Home
I'll provide an honest assessment of the home's value and help prepare it for market — even in situations where cooperation between parties is limited. I've navigated complex preparation scenarios before.
Managing the Sale with Care
From listing through closing, I manage every detail — showings, offers, negotiations, and paperwork — so neither party has to carry that burden alone during an already difficult time.
A Clean, Clear Close
My goal is a smooth, documented close that satisfies the legal requirements of your divorce agreement and gives both parties a clear path forward.
Who I work with
Every Situation Is Different
Couples Selling the Marital Home
When both parties agree to sell, I manage the process with neutrality and efficiency — keeping communication clear and the transaction on track.
One Spouse Buying Out the Other
If one party is keeping the home, I can help with valuation, refinancing guidance, and the documentation needed to support the legal transfer.
Court-Ordered Sales
When the court has ordered a sale, I understand the legal requirements and timelines involved — and I work to execute efficiently within those parameters.
High-Conflict Situations
When communication between parties is difficult, I serve as a calm, professional intermediary — keeping the focus on the transaction and reducing unnecessary friction.
You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone
If you're navigating a divorce and need guidance on what happens with the home, let's start with a private, no-pressure conversation.
